Richard George & Jenkins (Newtown)
History
Richard George and Jenkins was established by Richard George in 1904 and was later joined by H.L.D. Jenkins. The original partnership creating Richard George and Jenkins traded from The Old Bank Chambers, High Street, Newtown, where it continues today. At the outset the firm quickly established a sound conveyancing and probate base as well as dealing with most aspects of litigation, including civil and criminal work undertaking cases in the local Magistrates, Crown and County Courts.
Following the death of H.L.D. Jenkins in the mid 70's, Glynne Jones was made Senior Partner, and remained with the Firm until his retirement in 1993. In February 1979, Michael Davies joined the practice having been admitted on 15th April 1978, becoming a partner in 1980 and Senior Partner in 1993. Michael's main areas of work include crime, family and civil litigation. Michael is a member of the Law Society Child Care Panel and is also the administrator of the Mid Wales Duty Solicitor Scheme sitting on the Area Duty Solicitor Committee.
In 1980, the Practice expanded by appointing Huw Evans, initially as an assistant solicitor, (admitted 2nd November 1981), who later became a Partner in 1988. Huw specialises in residential and commercial conveyancing and landlord and tenant matters.
Geoff Landers rejoined the firm in January 2002 having been previously associated with the firm between 1988 and 1999 at our former Welshpool Office. Geoff was admitted in 1976 after graduating in Law at Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic and has practiced in most areas of the Law since that date and now deals primarily with Conveyancing, Wills and Probate matters.
John Hollis retired from the practice on 30 November 2010 and was
succeeded by Carol Bryan (admitted 16 June 1980). She previously
practised both as assistant solicitor and then as a partner with a
Meirionydd firm before taking a career break in 2007, when she
obtained a Bachelors degree in mathematics. Since then she has
practised in Powys specialising in Wills & Probate and associated
Trusts and Powers of Attorney matters.
